I've never surfed: What board do I need?

Posted by Andy White on

The Foamie or Softboard is your friend. You'd ideally want a board that is at least 2 feet taller than you, and as wide as you can fit under your arm (some boards now have handles so you can go even wider!) The longer the board the easier it will be for you to catch waves. The wider the board, the more stable it will be, assisting in the pop up. A thicker board will increase buoyancy, allowing you to trim or float across the wave face and increase speed on paddle out and into the waves.

We love the Mick Fanning Softboard range. You can learn to surf on this range, and then progress through to advanced using just this brand. Luke Stedman Knows, The 'Beastie' is an obvious favourite... and will take you from learner to intermediate. The 'Double Rainbow' though is even easier to learn on and well worth a look. We are also lucky enough to stock the Surf School & XL boards which are super wide, have the handle to help, and are soft for additional safety.
