BEN SKINNER wins both the OPEN and MASTERS with back to back heats entering both divisions in training for this weeks WSL Longboard 1st stop of the season at the US Open of Surfing. Ben was pushed all the way by Sam Bleakley, whom took second in both categories, and will also be flying to California to commentate on the events as they unfold live on the WSL platforms.
Local stand outs Greg Norman and Ashley Braunton, had a hard fought Open Final with Greg taking third and the Shaun Marlow memorial Trophy for highest placed local with Ashley in 4th. In the Masters, Mango team rider Mike Winter took third on his new Thunderbolt CJ Sprout 2 (on their first date) and new Mango store & team manager Andy White (aka me) took 4th.

After a few re-schedules waiting for the right kind of waves to run a single fin event where style and flow are precedent, the event was run with great success and fluidity on the day. The British Longboard Union is 30 years deep, along with the Hotdoggers Club, they know how to run an event! The waves were perfect, warm waters, first timers, old timers, and pro's all having a great time. A day in North Devon would not be complete without an appearance from Steve aka 'the man in red shorts', one of the most iconic characters in UK surf culture; whatever the season, no wettie, just a smile and a welcome. 
Thanks to event organisers Robert 'Minnow' Green, Norman Wright, Dawn Leighfield and Simon Mitchell and assistants Ashley Wright, the Judges, and all that helped out.
